Australia’s Northern Territory occupies one-sixth of the Australian continent and is Australia’s gateway to Asia. It has a population of around 227 000 people, 120 000 of whom live in and around the capital city of Darwin. Business and employment opportunities exist for new Northern Territorians in all industry sectors.
Almost 95% of Northern Territory businesses are small businesses, and the largest private sector employer is tourism, which provides around 18 000 jobs. In 2010, more than 1.3 million people visited the NT, staying for 5.4 million nights and spending more than $1.4 billion in the local economy.
